A New Beginning! Through local and state leaders at Native Ski ceremonies speaking from the heart about Americas mistakes, expressing appreciation for the vital contributions of our tribes, and giving their children a wholesome piece of the American Dream though skiing, we are beginning to understand Native values and perspective of Nature and history. By healing and honoring the past, we are creating a new beginning, said Ron Allred, owner of Telluride Ski and Golf Company who pioneered NVFs Program. (His destiny was in his name.) Hail Billy Kidd! After
two years of hosting Steamboats "Future Olympians
Program" for the Northern Utes, (with his coaches who
produced 45 Olympians), Billy Kidd and President Chris Diamond
connected NVF with the most enlightened ski area leaders
in our country. As a result, 28 ski areas or more are honoring
their local tribes this Olympic season - Americas
unique way of starting a reconciliation, by sharing the
joy of skiing,
“MVP's of the Millennium" A few of the gifts of the First Americans to the world are: to democracy, ecology, philosophy (influenced Gandhi and Marx), psychology, medicine, foods like corn, tomatoes... 6 Olympic sports - ice and field hockey, kayaking, bow & arrow, bobsledding/luge (tobogganing), soccer (kickball), plus lacrosse, 3 day spiritual marathon and snowshoeing, as well as giving more of their youth to protect our lands and winning more medals of honor per capita, than any other Americans. That’s why NVF’s sports legends call American Indians, “The MVP’s of the Millennium.” Where would be without their influence? Reconnecting through sports, the arts and ceremony, we’ve begun to understand Native values and their perspective of Nature and history, that our ancient ancestors once had. Native Americans throughout history have had a sports philosophy that strives for a clean body, mind and spirit balance with themselves and Mother Earth. Without their gifts to ecology and the most humane form of democracy (equality for women and no slaves),born of that balance, would we still be here? |
