NATIONAL SALUTE TO AMERICA'S 1st CARETAKERS! 2005

Olympic Skier Suzy Chaffee announced at a press conference at the Greek Olympics that, “Over 100 U.S. ski areas, the SnowSports Industry (gear donations), Snowsports Expos in 8 cities (starting at the end of October), Pro Sports events honoring their Tribes (like the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns), Winter Trails Day, National Trails Day, the National Sporting Goods Manufacturers, and GIFTS In KIND (products from 45% of the Fortune 500 Companies),....will “Salute America’s First Caretakers,” our 560 Indian Nations, this year!!!!

"The best way to thank your local tribes for their gifts to the roots of 10 Olympic sports, as well as the Sami (Laplanders) for inventing skiing and skating,.... is sharing sports opportunities," said Woody Vaspra, the Hawaiian President of the World Council of Elders. A Viet Nam pilot and former pro football and baseball player, he turned down the directorship of OSHA under Clinton to start the Council. (www.worldcouncilofelders.org).

    • May 20-21 National Ski Area Association Conference (NSAA) in Scottsdale, Az. Meeting with President Michael Berry and ski areas to pave the way for NSAA's inviting NVF to put our program on their website with the contact info for all the tribes in ski states, to inspire the greatest number of tribes are welcomed back to millions of acres of their beloved ancestral lands to ski, snowboard, and partner with the communities to help rebalance Nature, which will also help restore the snow.
    • Spring - Finalizing spearheading Native Americans being able to compete in
      future Olympics as Sovereign Nations, thanks to European support.
    • June 3-5 - Co-sponsorship of Aspen seminar with Friends of Earth Foundation, entitled "Thoreau and the Evolution of the American Mind: The Next Step." - about Thoreau's love for American Indians.
    • June 4 - Possible opportunities for Native Americans being honored, and lead eco tours on National Trails Day.
